Online Chat

Chat with other Sanctuary Carr-Gomm clients

During the IT Department roadshows held in April and May 2006 a number of clients asked about the possibility of providing online chat. By courtesy of Chatzy we opened an online chat room in June 2006 which all Sanctuary Carr-Gomm clients are very welcome to use.
  • There is no registration requirement so you can join the room instantly.
  • The service is free of charge.
  • Chatzy does not require any software to be installed on your computer: it will work on any computer.
  • Although it may not have some of the fancier features that some chatrooms offer, Chatzy is easy to use.
  • You can invite other people to join in by sending them a link via e-mail and you can also set up a private room of your own if you would like to chat one-to-one.

The chat room is moderated and if breaches of Acceptable Use occur the room archive may be cleared. This means that the room will be re-started and all existing chat dialogues will be deleted.

Please refer to the Acceptable Use (Chat) Summary given below. If in any doubt, refer to the full Sanctuary Carr-Gomm tenants' ICT Acceptable Use Policy.

In the event of continued breaches of Acceptable Use the room may be suspended for a time. A notice will be posted here (right) if the room is currently closed due to a suspension of service. The notice will detail the anticipated date and time when the service will be resumed.

The service is operating normally with no suspension of service warnings at present.

Acceptable Use (Chat) Summary

  1. Choose a name (or alias) that is safe and won't identify you too readily.
  2. Do not choose an alias which will offend other people.
  3. Chat nicely: do not use offensive or insulting language.
  4. Remember when using online chat that people may not be who they say they are, don't disclose private information like your address or telephone number.
  5. You do not have to disclose your real name if you don't want to. It would be unwise to disclose your full name (in other words your first name as well as your surname) unless you know no strangers are in the room.

Please read our tips on keeping safe online.

There are Help and FAQ links on the chat room page which should help you to get started. We hope that you enjoy using the chat facility and would be very pleased to hear your feedback.

To access the chat room you will need to use the password shown in the image on the right. The password is presented in this way to prevent it being deciphered by web search software. You must type the password in exactly the same way as it is shown here. If you use capital letters instead of small letters, for example, the password will not work.

Here is the link to access the chat room: Go to the CGtell Chatzy room.
